Caroline Elizabeth Burgwin Clitherall (1784-1863) was a plantation owner's wife and school teacher who lived in Belleville and Walterboro, South Carolina, at Thornbury Plantation in North Carolina, and in Greensboro, Tuscaloosa, and Mobile, Alabama. Her husband George Campbell Clitherall (d. 1829) was a planter and physician. The couple had six children: (1) Eliza Inglis Clitherall Moore (1802-1886); (2) Harriet A.
